Meet the Green Foundation team
Facilitators and practitioners from the Eden Project lead Green Foundation’s interactive workshops and activities.
We chose them because their personal experiences of tackling sustainability in the workplace mean they have valuable lessons and knowledge to share – and because we know they can inspire.
On the day, teams may vary, but the individuals you will come in to contact with have experience in some pretty diverse areas, including:
climate science; leadership coaching and facilitation; small business training; running a social enterprise; regeneration; gardening and garden design; art and performance; waste and recycling; sustainable retail; energy management; green tourism; sustainable transport.

Tom StevensProject manager
Tom project manages the Green Foundation programme, combining his expertise on practical environmental management with his passion for bringing positive change.
Read more about TomHaving gained a BSc in Zoology and an MSc in Environmental Management and Conservation, Tom has worked on a wide range of sustainable development projects within the tourism industry, forestry and landscape restoration as well as the charitable sector across the UK, Southern Africa and Central America.
Before joining the Eden Project, Tom worked as Conservation Manager for Dartington Hall Trust, Devon, leading on innovative land management projects, education and research programmes and threading the sustainable agenda into mainstream activities of the business.

Sue HillFacilitator
With her background in performance and community engagement, Sue Hill helps unlock participants’ creative thinking in Green Foundation workshops.
Read more about SueBorn and raised in Cornwall, Sue has travelled the world, making theatre in unlikely places with Kneehigh and WildWorks, from Cyprus to Kensington Palace, via Soweto. With her brother, Pete Hill, she has made many large scale earth sculptures including the Mudmaid and Giant at Heligan and Eve at Eden.
She was Artistic Director of the Eden Project for seven years, helping to create our innovative interpretation strategy, and commissioning artists, writers and performers to illuminate Eden’s ideas and messages.
She now works with Eden to bring this creativity and experience of public engagement to projects like Green Foundation.

Matt HastingsEnergy & carbon team
He’s the man who pays the bills and manages water and energy efficiency at Eden – so he’s ideally placed to share his learning on sustainability issues with local businesses.
Read more about MattMatt’s role at the Eden Project involves managing renewable energy projects as well as technical and operational energy efficiency projects.
He secures funding, develops partnerships, pays the bills, manages water efficiency, creates energy policy and action plans, installs and checks energy monitoring systems. On top of all that he helps train Eden teams to become more energy-efficient at home and at work.
The best thing is that he’s keen to pass on all this incredible practical knowledge, having worked previously in roles in education and marketing, where communication is key. -
Paul HolmesProcurement & retail team
With experience of managing the local supply chain at Eden, Paul has an invaluable working knowledge of Cornish sustainable procurement issues.
Read more about PaulPaul looks after Eden’s relationships with its local supply chain, working to tackle resource efficiency and sustainability issues as well as seeking opportunities to develop new products and secure new routes to market.
He is also leading Eden’s Clear About Carbon work, a project focusing on carbon literacy skills for small businesses and preparing them for the transition to a low -arbon economy.
Borrowed from Sir Nicholas Stern’s 2006 ground-breaking review on the economic impacts of climate change, Paul’s mantra is that ‘it’s no longer business as usual’.

Tammy BarclayProcurement & retail team
A former retail consultant, and now responsible for developing Eden’s ethical product ranges, Tammy offers a unique perspective on business procurement.
Read more about TammyTammy started work for Eden as a consultant initially and then liked it so much she joined the buying team permanently! Tammy is responsible for selecting and developing the product ranges which are sold in Eden’s onsite and online shops.
Before moving to Cornwall Tammy worked as category manager for Sainsburys, managing a team of buyers for non-food homeware products. She has also worked as a buyer for the Kingfisher group, which includes Superdrug, B&Q and Woolworths.

Mandy MilanoFacilitator
Mandy not only brings her professional facilitation skills to the programme, but the experience of running her own small business within the county.
Read more about MandyFollowing 10 years with Common Purpose, a leadership development charity, Mandy now runs her own leadership and facilitation company Covya.
It’s so named after an old Cornish word meaning 'to nurture to take under one's wing like a mother hen her chicks'. She chose this because it’s based on her belief that ‘we all work best, innovate, take risks, and move out of our comfort zone when we feel safe and nurtured.’
But it definitely ain’t soft, she says: ‘Setting and holding the boundaries is tough stuff. Holding and enabling great conversations leading to decision and action can be difficult and challenging. And it’s what I love to do’.
She brings to the Green Foundation programme her own experience of management and business from 10 years as MD of Hirst Magnetic Instruments.

Ted PageHousekeeping team
Ted is a member of Eden’s vital housekeeping team, which keeps the visitor attraction looking sparkling, while reducing its environmental impact.
Read more about TedTed, a former civil engineering technician, is now applying himself to a whole new challenge: how to keep sparkling clean a visitor attraction which welcomes some million people a year, while also reducing its environmental impact to a minimum.
The housekeeping team has worked hard to cut the water, energy and chemicals needed for cleaning, and is constantly trialling new products and methods to do so.
They’ve also won a coveted Loo of the Year Award and made sure that Eden’s 245 toilets have retained their gold standard for the last seven years.

Maxine FullerWaste team
Maxine is a passionate member of the waste team, helping to implement Eden’s ‘waste neutral’ policy and oversee its impressive composting operations.
Read more about MaxineHaving worked previously in one of the catering outlets at Eden, Maxine discovered a passion for re-use recycling and eventually found her niche in the waste neutral team.
She’s now part of a committed group of staff who help implement Eden’s ambitious waste policy, recycling everything we can, measuring everything we can’t, and ensuring we buy in the equivalent weight of recycled goods.
She has also become an expert on Eden’s in-vessel composter, which transforms 90% of our food waste into a nitrogen-rich soil enhancement for our gardens.

Amelie TrolleFacilitator
Having specialised in sustainability within the corporate sector, Amelie brings to the programme a sound practical experience of green business issues.

Born in Sweden, Amelie’s passion for world issues, travel and sustainability has taken her to work and live in various locations ranging from urban melting pots such as Paris and Geneva to the rural north of Sweden and remote parts of Oman, where she was Sustainability Officer with Six Senses Resorts & Spas.
Amelie holds a BA in International Affairs & Development from the American University of Paris and an MA in Environmental Management & Policy from Lund University, Sweden.

Dan RyanFacilitator
With his background in biology and science communication, Dan has a passion for helping people understand environmental issues and come up with their own solutions.
Read more about DanConservation specialist in Eden’s Knowledge Team, Dan Ryan helps harness the organisation’s scientific and horticultural expertise to create innovative projects, research, partnerships, and educational opportunities at Eden.
With degrees in Biology and Science Communication, he also has extensive experience of working on a wide range of environmental projects, including in the Argentinean rainforest.

Andrew HoldenProcurement & retail team
Andrew brings with him a fantastic overview of procurement, from his roles in retail and purchasing at IKEA, Habitat and now the Eden Project.
Read more about AndrewAndrew left education with qualifications in woodwork and the history of furniture. Having worked as a production manager in a furniture factory, Andrew went on to join IKEA as a technical assistant. Ten years later he left as UK buyer for all UK manufacturing.
After a role as Head of Global Purchasing at Habitat, Andrew joined Eden with a responsibility for its retail range and its site-wide procurement policy. He has been instrumental in creating the Eden shop’s ethical range, as well as in the decision to eliminate palm oil from new products.
